Steadi Pay is not live yet. Live mode is not open, and every account is sandbox only.

Status

Steadi Pay is not live. We have not opened live mode, and no real payments can be made. We will announce it here and by email when that changes. Until then, build and test in the sandbox.

The gate

Once live mode is open, all of these must also be true for a merchant:

  1. A sandbox payment that is Paid
  2. A sandbox payment that failed (no money taken)
  3. Merchant status is active (review completed)

Until then the portal Test / Live switch stays on test and explains why. While live mode is closed, creating a live API key or a live checkout returns live_payments_disabled. After it opens, a merchant who has not met the gate gets live_not_available.

Receive money first

Live collections go to the merchant's own account at Airtel Money, the bank or another licensed gateway. Add those credentials in Developers → Receive money. Secrets are write-only. See Receive money.

Each merchant has their own settlement account. Never reuse another merchant's bank account.

Switch the app

  • Store sk_live_ on the server only
  • Create a live webhook endpoint and verify SteadiPay-Signature
  • Point API calls at https://api.steadipay.ltd
  • Confirm a real MWK 100 (or similar) payment end to end before you open the till

Onboarding documents

Once live mode is open, merchants submit KYC from the portal. The licensed partner holds the money. Approval is a staff action after the checklist is complete.
